The Château La Bouillerie is reached via a majestic avenue of lime trees, which form an immense green vault, revealing the elegant classical-style façade of the chateau, which was built in the 17th century and redesigned in the 19th century.
To the right of the castle, a charming chapel was built in the 19th century, it houses a 15th century stained glass window classified as a Historic Monument.
To the left of the chateau, a path leads you to a charming guest house. This pavilion opens onto a terrace which surrounds the heated swimming pool. A little further on, a tennis court is at your disposal.
The Château de La Bouillerie is a big house of 1350 m2, made up of a part built in the 19th century and one in the 17th century.
On the right, in the 19th century part, a very bright and grand salon opens through numerous windows onto the park and the chapel. Nearby, there is a more intimate lounge with a grand piano and a library.
To the left of the entrance, in the 17th century, a study serves as a television room. A few steps away is the living room called “winter living room”, because it is very comfortable in winter. It is bathed in light and warm. Its large French windows open onto a terrace and the park. In summer, this lounge can be transformed into a dining room for about thirty people. The corridor then leads to a beautiful and refined dining room, then to the large and charming kitchen, a place to live in all year round.
The chateau has 13 rooms, 9 of which are open for rent. The 4 closed rooms can be put at your disposal, with an additional cost. They all have their own private bathroom. The first lord of Château de La Bouillerie is known to us was called Geoffroy du Chesne and lived in 1307. The Dufour family then became the owners of Saint-Blaise. In 1523, Jehan Dufour had a chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise built in the seigneurial place of Château de La Bouillerie, and endowed it with the beautiful stained glass window of the Crucifixion (listed as a Historic Monument) which is now its main ornament.
The times that followed were not favourable for Château de La Bouillerie, which was abandoned. It was in 1652 that Jehan Odiau, a lawyer from La Flèche, who had become Lord of La Bouillerie through his marriage to Marie de l’Esperonnière, had the castle renovated.
From 1809 onwards, the owner who was the mayor of La Flèche and sub-prefect, began major embellishment work. The beautiful linden avenue at the arrival, the gloriette and the long terrace date from this period.
The château was then a modest building of classical architecture, with its central building flanked by its two wings. However, it proved too small to accommodate large family gatherings. The choice was made to demolish the north wing and to build a new structure in the Henri II style, with more noble proportions, in its place. The work was completed in 1887.
Since then, these buildings have retained the same configuration, with its successive owners Emmanuel, Bertrand, then Thierry de La Bouillerie, giving priority to work inside the château as well as embellishing the park.
Faced with the damage caused by a violent storm in May 2018, which knocked down more than 80 century-old and bicentury-old trees, Thierry’s children revisited the park’s layout by launching landscaping work and replanting numerous trees and plants in order to restore Château La Bouillerie to its former magnificence.
