Located right next to the château, theorangery rounds out the event space offerings with two distinctive areas: a bright, glass-enclosed room measuring 50 m² and a 70 m² vaulted stone hall—two venues that instantly transport your guests to the unique atmosphere of historic Burgundy.
The estate also features a winery on its grounds, offering tours, tastings, and on-site purchases—a rare treat for Burgundy wine enthusiasts looking to combine their stay with an exploration of the region.
The History of the Castle
The history of the Château du Belvédère in Vézelay dates back to the Middle Ages, when these lands belonged to Girard de Roussillon before coming under the jurisdiction of the Chapter of Avallon.
It was in the 15th century, during the reign of Charles VII, that the d’Estutt d’Assay family—a noble lineage of Scottish origin that had settled in France—moved to Tharoiseau and left its mark on the town’s history for several centuries.
The present castle, rebuilt around 1847 on the site of a former main building, bears the mark of this family: their coat of arms still adorns the chapel in the village cemetery, the family’s burial place. Its large west-facing façade opens wide onto the Cure Valley, offering a Burgundian panorama that has remained unchanged for over two hundred years. Today, as a winery producing wines under the Vézelay appellation, Tharoiseau carries on a winemaking tradition as old as the village itself.
