Heritage
The History of the Castle
19th century1843
The history of the Château de La Bijoire is deeply rooted in that of the de Bretagne family. The estate was acquired by the de la Bajonnière family
1873
Thirty years later, Gabrielle de la Bajonnière married Charles de Bretagne, a native of Douai, who then moved to the Vendée to settle on his wife’s estate. Eager to transform the existing residence, Charles commissioned the local architect Guillerot to design an expansion. None of the designs met his expectations, so he ultimately decided to have the original building demolished. In its place, he had a Flemish-style château built, a nod to the homes of his childhood in northern France.
1875
Construction was completed in 1875, giving rise to the distinctive silhouette we know today.
2014
More than a century later, in 2014, the château underwent a complete restoration led by Hugues de Bretagne, Charles’s great-grandson and an architect by profession. Together with his wife Catherine, a painter, as well as their children and in-laws, they breathed new life into the family home by modernizing the spaces while preserving its historical character. The Château de La Bijoire has thus become a warm and welcoming home, open for stays, weddings, and large family gatherings, while preserving the spirit of a heritage passed down from generation to generation.

On the ground floor, the Château de La Bijoire features a 130-square-meter reception area, comprising several elegant and colorful living rooms designed to comfortably accommodate your family or friends.
These living areas include a large living room with a piano, a small sitting room decorated with tapestries, a dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen. These rooms, reserved exclusively for your stay, allow you to entertain up to 25 guests in complete privacy, with accommodations in both the château and the guest house.

J'ai loué le château de la Bijoire pour passer le réveillon 2025–2026 avec des amis. Nous y avons séjourné 5 jours. L’expérience a été absolument parfaite. Le château offre un très grand confort, idéal pour un séjour convivial et reposant. La réalité est encore plus belle que sur les photos : les espaces sont magnifiques, chaleureux et très bien entretenus. L’accueil que nous avons reçu a été remarquable, à la fois professionnel et attentionné, ce qui nous a immédiatement mis à l’aise. Un lieu d’exception que nous recommandons sans hésitation pour des moments inoubliables en famille ou entre amis.

Request these datesYou have two options: – Stay Option – Weekend at the Castle: You rent the entire property, including the castle and the guest house, to accommodate 25 people—15 in the castle and 10 in the guest house. The entire property is reserved exclusively for you, including the grounds, the pool, and the furnished outdoor areas surrounding the pool; however, you may not host a large reception. – Reception Package: You’ll rent the reception area around the pool, the converted and heated barn, the covered terrace, and the bar. You’ll also rent the guest house to accommodate 10 people, but you won’t have access to the castle, which will be closed. You have exclusive use of the entire grounds surrounding the castle and the pool. The rental price includes all taxes and covers heating, water, electricity, yard maintenance, and cleaning at the end of your stay. Cleaning during your stay is available upon request. Sheets and towels are provided. The beds will be made upon your arrival. The only fee remaining to be paid upon your arrival is the tourist tax. Security deposit required: 2,500 euros. This region of Vendée with a mild and sunny climate allows many cultural and sporting discoveries for all ages. The nearest city is La Roche-sur-Yon. From Paris (a 4-hour drive) via Angers and then Cholet, follow signs for “La Roche-sur-Yon Sud,” take the “Aubigny” exit, and head south toward La Tranche. Drive 10 km to the “L’Épinette” roundabout. A few minutes from La Bijoire, you can go surfing, sailing, or any other nautical sport (paddle, fishing, canoe …). The nearest beach is Longeville at 19 km. There is also the Bud beach (23 km, surfing school), Bouil beach (22km, sailing school) and the Lake of Saint Vincent sur Graon (4km) .You can go horse riding at 1km from the castle, at the Stables of la Boissière or the Stables of la Jaulnière. Guests can play tennis at the indoor tennis courts of Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon, 4 km away, or go golfing at 12 km to the Golf de la Domangère or Port Bourgenay at 23 km.
An attraction not to miss : the Puy du Fou at 60 km. You will also appreciate the Indian Forest (15km), the Château des Aventuriers (10km), the Automobile Museum (20km), the Poterie de Nesmy (12km) and the Marais Poitevin (60km).
