In 1690 Jean Martimor built Chateau Coulom in Gibel. King Louis XIV had sold him “the office of King’s Counsel, Mayor of the place and Gibel Community”.
The chateau has always remained in the Martimor family, among whom there are lawyers, and landowners exploiting the Pastel, flagship of Lauragais commerce, including Capitain Jacques Rigaud de Rouvayroulis in 1750, and the Marquise of Raymond Lasbordes, great-grandmother of the current owner, Charles Martimor. Major renovations were undertaken in Coulom to make the current home comfortable , while preserving the authenticity of the place, with a facade listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments.
Chateau Coulom is in the heart of the Lauragais region, the country of Pastel, halfway between Toulouse and Carcassonne, two cities of great historical and cultural wealth.
Have a walk along the Canal du Midi, and go windsurfing on Ganguise Lake, just minutes from the chateau.
Coulom is only 45 minutes from the Pyrenees, a paradise for hiking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, swimming in the waterfalls, cross country skiing or downhill skiing.
History fans will love the exceptional heritage of the region: the medieval village of Mirepoix, picturesque artistic village of Carla-Bayle, Mas d’Azil caves, Cathar castle of Montsegur, Foix castle … 1 hour from the Mediterranean sea and Spain.
