Château La Commanderie is a majestic 13th-century Cathar château. Its renovation has turned it into a large, family-friendly residence, while preserving the architecture of the medieval fortress. Once you’ve passed through the entrance gates, you’re at home in the entire estate for the duration of your rental. The owner, Rebecca, gives you the keys – you’re a squire! If you’re planning a wedding with a vin d’honneur in the grounds, a banquet in the Salle des Chevaliers or brunch by the pool the next day, your guests will marvel at the majesty and elegance of the setting. If you’re on vacation with the family, the park with its swimming pool and tall trees in the refreshing shade will be the ideal relaxation area for young and old alike.

Principal living and reception rooms
For your receptions or wedding, the Château can accommodate up to 130 people, and reception furniture is provided as in all “Votre Château de Famille” châteaux. Several areas are available for your receptions at the château. On the first floor, cocktail lounges (100 m2) open onto the terrace and shaded park with swimming pool. Upstairs, a 140 m2 banqueting area comprises the Salle des Chevaliers (86m2), the Salle de Billard (45m2) and the Salle à manger. Outside, you can set up a marquee of up to 300m2 on the château’s south lawn, and take advantage of preferential rates from a partner tent supplier.

Our bedrooms
Domaine de la Commanderie can accommodate 29 people: 21 in the 10 double rooms of the château and a further 8 in the 4 double rooms of the cottage. The château’s rooms are decorated with refinement by the owner, who is an artist. They will take you on a journey through time, from the 17th century to the 1940s. With the option of privatizing the entire estate and accommodating guests in the château’s rooms, you can offer your loved ones not just a party, but a holiday of sharing and conviviality to prolong the pleasure.

Guest house
The cottage, located in the grounds of the château, is a charming 18th-century stone house, perfect for accommodating additional guests. Bright and cosy, it features a living room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen. There’s a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom on the first floor and three double bedrooms upstairs.

Our Rates
The property is always rented in its entirety to a single family. You have the entire château at your disposal, with its bedrooms (sleeping 21), reception rooms, grounds and swimming pool. If you’re a larger family, you can rent the Cottage for an additional 8 people, at extra cost. The rental price includes heating, water, electricity, garden maintenance and cleaning at the end of your stay. Bed linen and towels are provided. Beds are made up on arrival. Only the tourist tax is payable on arrival. Tables and chairs for the reception are provided. Deposit required: 3,000 euros for the château and 1,000 euros for the cottage. For receptions, an estimate will be provided on request. You can also rent an outdoor tent from a partner supplier.

HistoryChâteau La Commanderie
Château de la Commanderie was built in the 12th century on the initiative of Cathar lord Guillaume de Plaigne, who took part in the Avignognet massacre, then shut himself away in Monségur with the besieged. In the 16th century, Barthélemy de Plaigne decided to enlarge the château by creating the Salle des Chevaliers. The château was then sold to François Paul de Béon-Masse-Cazeaux, Grand Prior of the Order of Malta in Toulouse, who in 1685 made the seigneury a Commandery of the Order of St. John. Until the French Revolution, the Commanderie remained a property of the Order of Malta. In the 19th century, the Commanderie came under the ownership of Monsieur de Nicol, who modernized the building and the property. It remained in the same family for a hundred years, the last descendant being Violette de Ferluc. The property was purchased in 1973 by the family of the current owners.
