Just two kilometers from the château, Uzès enchants visitors with its exceptional heritage and authentic southern charm. Listed as a “Town of Art and History,” it reveals architectural treasures such as the arcaded Place aux Herbes, Saint-Theodorit Cathedral, the iconic Fenestrelle Tower, and its beautifully preserved medieval streets. A short drive away, the Pont du Gard, a masterpiece of Roman engineering and UNESCO World Heritage site, is an unmissable visit.

The region’s major historic cities are also within easy reach: Nîmes, known as the “French Rome,” with its perfectly preserved Roman arena, Maison Carrée, and Museum of Romanity; Avignon, the former papal city famous for the Palais des Papes and its legendary bridge; and Arles, a Provençal gem where Roman heritage meets the artistic legacy of Van Gogh. All three are less than an hour’s drive from the château.

Art of living and gastronomy

Uzès thrives to the rhythm of its renowned markets, among the most famous in southern France. Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, the Place aux Herbes comes alive with local producers offering truffles, Duché d’Uzès wines, cheeses, olive oils, and Provençal delicacies. Nearby, the village of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie, known for its ceramic workshops, invites visitors to meet local artisans and browse their creations — the perfect place to find an authentic souvenir from the region.

Nature and outdoor activities

The surroundings of Uzès provide a haven of natural beauty, ideal for relaxation and outdoor pursuits. The Vallée de l’Eure, just minutes from the town center, features scenic walking paths through shaded forests, Roman ruins, and natural springs. Along the Gardon River, canoe trips and hiking trails reveal breathtaking landscapes, while cyclists and horseback riders will enjoy the many routes winding through the Gard countryside.

Vineyards and discoveries

Only a few minutes from the château, the Duché d’Uzès vineyards stretch across the surrounding hills. Several estates welcome visitors for tastings and cellar tours, showcasing this rising Languedoc appellation renowned for its elegant, well-balanced wines. These wine experiences perfectly complement the region’s gentle pace of life and Mediterranean art of living.

Mediterranean beaches

The Mediterranean coastline is easily accessible from the château. In just over an hour, you can reach the beaches of Le Grau-du-Roi or La Grande-Motte, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. Further west, the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, in the heart of the Camargue, offer a wilder, unspoiled landscape of dunes, flamingos, and local traditions — an unforgettable escape that pairs beautifully with a cultural and gourmet stay in Uzès.
