Château de La Bouillerie

The Château de La Bouillerie is available for rent for your family vacation. It has been in the same family for three centuries. Perfectly maintained, this property is nestled in the heart of a 350-hectare estate and features a heated pool. The château and its guest house can accommodate 25 people. The La Bouillerie estate is an ideal place to gather with family or friends in a peaceful setting, relax surrounded by nature, or visit the castles of the Kings of France in the Loire Valley. It is located in the Sarthe department , just 30 minutes from Le Mans and its legendary racetrack, as well as from Angers and Tours, and less than 2 hours from Paris.

The castle is accessed via a majestic avenue of linden trees, which form a vast canopy of greenery, revealing the castle’s elegant, classical-style facade. The castle was built in the 17th century and remodeled in the 19th.

To the right of the castle stands the charming Saint-Blaise Chapel, built in the 19th century; it houses a 15th-century stained-glass window listed as a Historic Monument.

To the left of the castle, a path leads to a charming guest house. This cottage opens onto a terrace that surrounds the heated pool.

La Bouillerie Castle is a spacious residence covering 1,350 square meters, consisting of a section built in the 19th century and another in the 17th.

On the right, in the 19th-century wing, a very bright reception room features numerous windows overlooking the park and the chapel. Nearby is a more intimate parlor with a grand piano and a library.

To the left of the entrance, in the 17th-century wing, a study serves as a TV lounge. A few steps away is the living room known as the “winter lounge,” as it is very cozy in winter. It is a double-depth room, bathed in light and warm and inviting. Its large French doors open onto a furnished terrace and the park. The hallway then leads to a beautiful, very elegant dining room, and on to the large, charming kitchen—a genuine and welcoming living space all year round.

The castle has 9 guest rooms available for rent. All rooms have private bathrooms. They offer a splendid view of the countryside. They are tastefully decorated, furnished with antique pieces, and have retained the charm of the grand family homes of the French aristocracy. They can comfortably accommodate 15 people.

An apartment in the castle, with a separate entrance, can accommodate 4 people in 2 bedrooms, each with its own shower room. The living room in this apartment is equipped with a home theater system.

The pavilion right next to the castle can accommodate 6 additional guests in 3 bedrooms.

This charming house is located in the park, near the pool.

With a total area of approximately 150 m² spread over two levels, it features, on the ground floor, a living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a separate toilet.

Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms with a bathroom and a separate toilet.

The first lord of La Bouillerie Castle whose name is known to us was Geoffroy du Chesne, who lived in 1307. The Dufour family later became its owners. In 1523, Jehan Dufour had a chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise built and endowed it with the beautiful stained-glass window depicting the Crucifixion (designated a Historic Monument), which today serves as its principal ornament.

The years that followed were not kind to the estate, which was left to fall into disrepair. It was in 1652 that Jehan Odiau, a lawyer from La Flèche, had the castle renovated.

Beginning in 1809, the owner—who was mayor of La Flèche and subprefect—undertook major beautification projects. The beautiful avenue of linden trees at the entrance, the gazebo, and the long terrace date from that time.

At that time, La Bouillerie was a small castle of classical architecture, with a central main building flanked by two L-shaped wings. However, it proved too cramped to accommodate large family gatherings. The decision was made to demolish the north wing and build in its place a new north wing in the Henri II style, with more stately proportions. The work was completed in 1887.

Since then, these buildings have retained the same layout, as their successive owners—Emmanuel, Bertrand, and then Thierry—have focused on renovations inside the castle as well as the beautification of the grounds. In the wake of the damage caused by a violent storm in May 2018, which toppled more than 80 trees that were 100 and 200 years old, Thierry’s children have revamped the grounds by undertaking landscaping projects and replanting numerous trees and plants to restore the estate to its former splendor.
