The estate
Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, the Château du Bellay is an elegant 19th-century estate, with some parts dating back to the 16th century. Built of tuffeau stone—the signature stone of the great Loire Valley châteaux—it offers a bright and authentic setting for a vacation with family or friends. Available for rent year-round, by the week or for a weekend, the estate charms visitors with its serene atmosphere and exceptional surroundings.
The château can accommodate 12 people in its 8 bedrooms, with the capacity to accommodate up to 14 guests when the group includes two children. From the terraces and gardens, the view extends to the Château de Saumur and the estate’s canal, offering a peaceful and inspiring setting.
Just 15 minutes from Saumur and 35 minutes from Tours and Angers, the Château du Bellay is ideally located for exploring the treasures of the Loire Valley. Its heated pool beneath Roman arcades and its sprawling grounds make it an exceptional place to experience the gentle art of living in the Loire Valley.

In the heart of the Loire Valley, the Château du Bellay is set in a naturally elegant setting, typical of the Loire region’s landscapes. Located in the town of Allonnes and designated a Historic Monument, it immediately captivates visitors with its tuffeau stone architecture—the iconic, light-filled stone of the Loire Valley châteaux. Beautifully renovated by the family that owns it, the estate harmoniously combines a Renaissance pavilion with a 19th-century neoclassical building, recognizable by its graceful Italian-style peristyle.
The avenue, lined with linden and chestnut trees, leads to the castle’s cream-colored facade, bathed in soft light. All around, the 3-hectare park unfolds with its lawns, canal, and century-old trees, offering spectacular views of the Château de Saumur, visible from the terraces and the front steps.
To the right of the driveway, the arcades of the former orangery house a heated pool—a true oasis of tranquility, perfect for relaxing in any season. The estate also offers direct access to a private forest, ideal for walks, morning jogs, or playing outdoors.
At the end of the day, the west-facing porch becomes one of the most beautiful spots in the château: a perfect place to admire the sunset, with the Château de Saumur and the estate’s canal as a backdrop.

The History of the Castle
16th centuryThe birthplace of the du Bellay family, the château bears the name of a lineage that produced many illustrious figures, including Joachim du Bellay, a great 16th-century French poet and member of the Pléiade. As a testament to this prestigious history, the estate’s buildings are now listed as Historic Monuments.
The property has been in the same family for over 150 years and consists of two buildings. The first, dating from the Renaissance period, is a former hunting lodge whose charm still defines the character of the place. The second, built in the early 19th century, is the work of architect François-Léonard Seheult, known for his elegant and well-balanced neoclassical designs.

Lounges and Reception Rooms
From the moment you enter, the Château du Bellay reveals a bright and warm atmosphere. The open-plan entryway, bathed in the soft light characteristic of tuffeau stone, offers an elegant view of the various reception rooms on the ground floor.
The round parlor, painted in a delicate pastel blue, evokes the refined spirit of 18th-century salons. It is a soothing space, designed for reading, conversation, or a quiet break between activities.
Next to it, the square parlor offers a more intimate atmosphere: its fully functional fireplace makes it a particularly cozy spot for winter evenings, family weekends, or get-togethers with friends.
A large dining room, featuring a table that seats up to 14 people, completes this entertainment space and provides the perfect setting for sharing meals and enjoying time together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The castle’s living areas combine historic charm with modern comfort, creating spaces that are pleasant to enjoy in every season.

The castle features 8 rooms decorated with taste and refinement. The windows in the rooms are particularly well-designed and help keep the rooms bright. The Bird Room, with its adjoining small children’s room, is ideal for a couple with young children and allows the capacity to be increased to 14 people if you have at least two children in your group. The Turquoise Room is the most private option, thanks to its spacious private bathroom.

Request these datesThe property is always rented out in its entirety to a single family. You have the entire castle (12 adults + 2 children), the grounds, and the pool at your disposal. The rental price includes all taxes and covers heating, water, electricity, garden maintenance, and regular cleaning of the castle. Sheets and towels are provided. The beds will be made upon your arrival. Only the visitor’s tax is due upon arrival. Security deposit required: 2,000 euros.
