Château de Montfleury

Located 25 km from Clermont-Ferrand and 27 minutes from Aulnat Airport, the Château de Montfleury stands out as an exceptional destination in the heart of “Tuscany of Auvergne,” a micro-region with Latin charm so named by Catherine de’ Medici herself. Nestled in a valley hollow within the town of Laps (Puy-de-Dôme), this historic 16th- and 18th-century estate welcomes you to a setting of pale stone and lush greenery for your most cherished events.

With its yellow arkose stone, which gives it the look of an Italian villa, the view of the Chaîne des Puys from the far end of the park, and the intimate atmosphere of a family estate passed down through the centuries, Montfleury is a place unlike any other in Auvergne.

The castle has 9 rooms that can accommodate 15 people, along with a vacation rental that sleeps 8. For your events, the fully renovated banquet halls can seat up to 170 people. The estate is the ideal setting for weddings, birthdays, corporate seminars, and large family celebrations.

The estate covers 5 hectares of virtually enclosed grounds, featuring an English-style park crossed by the Laps River and a boxwood garden laid out on the site of the former vegetable garden. On a clear day, from the far end of the park, the view extends all the way to the Chaîne des Puys and the Puy de Sancy —a panorama that constantly reminds one of the uniqueness of the setting.

Surrounding the main building, the estate’s various structures—the 16th-century castle, the 18th-century additions, and the guesthouse—form a harmonious and serene ensemble, where it’s a pleasure to arrive with your arms full of luggage for a weekend with friends, a family gathering, or a unique seminar.

Swimming Pool: A heated swimming pool, secured by fences, is currently undergoing renovations and will be available starting in 2027.

Parking: Two parking lots with a total of 80 spaces, located within the property.

The Château de Montfleury features three flexible reception areas, all of which are accessible to people with limited mobility (PWM), located as an extension of the 18th-century building.

The Brighella Hall

The Brighella Room, Montfleury’s main reception space, has been completely renovated and can be configured to suit your needs. It features a dedicated entrance with two restrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. A 14 m² catering kitchen equipped with a double sink, a refrigerator, and plating tables is directly adjacent; everything is set up so that your caterer can work under the best conditions.

The Scapino Hall

Two staircases on either side of the ground floor lead to the Colombina mezzanine and the Scapino Room, which together form a continuous 100-square-meter space . This level offers a view of the entire reception area and can serve as additional space or as a separate meeting area.

The venues as a whole can accommodate up to 170 seated guests.

The Large Living Room

The centerpiece of the château, the grand salon brings together all the elements of an authentic Auvergne interior: a fireplace, antique terracotta tiles, and period furniture. It’s the ideal space for socializing between activities, or simply for extending the evening in a warm and welcoming setting.

The dining room

With its large communal table, the dining room is the heart of group meals at the château. Perfect for breakfast, it can also be used for intimate dinners as a complement to the reception rooms.

The Kitchen

Fully equipped to handle large gatherings, the castle’s kitchen features two ovens (electric and gas), a deep fryer, a large refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. It offers a comfortable workspace for those who wish to cook on their own.

The castle accommodates 15 guests in its 9 rooms, spread over two floors. Each room is named after a color and has its own unique atmosphere. Wood paneling, terracotta tiles, antique furniture, and freestanding bathtubs: these are just some of the details that make every night at the castle an experience in itself.

On the ground floor, four bedrooms open onto the grounds; on the first floor, five bedrooms offer the same tranquility as the estate, with views of the rooftops and the Auvergne countryside. Most have a private bathroom.

Just a stone’s throw from the castle, the estate’s guesthouse offers a self-catering getaway in the same lush, green setting. Completely renovated using eco-friendly materials, it accommodates up to 8 people in an authentic, rustic atmosphere—ideal as additional lodging during a large reception or for a small group getaway.

The annex is available only in conjunction with the rental of reception spaces.

The first notable owner of Montfleury was the Lord of La Guesle, a favorite of Queen Catherine de’ Medici, who nicknamed this region the “Tuscany of Auvergne” because it reminded her so much of her homeland. Upon her death in 1561, the estate passed to the d’Aymard family, then to the du Bost family. The du Bost family retained it until Michel du Bost de Codegnat, who, having no descendants, donated it in 1722 to Pierre and Marie-Anne Amariton, on the condition that they adopt the name and coat of arms of the du Bost family.

Montfleury is historically notable for having been regularly passed down from uncle to nephew. During the Revolution, like the other properties of the émigrés, the estate was seized and its furnishings sold at auction in the courtyard. Jean-Baptiste-Louis Amariton de Montfleury reclaimed his estate upon his return from exile and commissioned the early 19th-century additions, without altering the original character of the property. Having no children of his own, he adopted his grandnephew Louis de Vinols, to whom he bequeathed his name, his title, and all his property.

Today, Montfleury is writing a new chapter in its history—that of an open, vibrant estate, remaining true to the spirit of a grand family home that has always defined it.

The Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2018, the Chaîne des Puys features 80 volcanoes stretching over 32 km. The Puy-de-Dôme, an iconic peak visible from the estate on clear days, can be reached by rack-and-pinion train or on foot. The panoramic views from the summits are among the most beautiful in France. Don’t miss: Puy-de-Dôme, Puy du Pariou, Puy de Côme, and Puy de Sancy.

The Lakes of Auvergne

From crater lakes to bodies of water equipped for swimming, Auvergne is brimming with aquatic areas set in unspoiled natural surroundings. Must-sees: Lac Pavin, Lac d’Aydat, Lac Bleu, Lac de Guéry.

Clermont-Ferrand

Just 41 minutes from the castle, the prefecture of Puy-de-Dôme is well worth a visit. Its Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral, built entirely of black volcanic stone, is a monument unique in Europe. Place de Jaude and the many museums round out the visit.

The Sancy Massif

The peaks of the Sancy Massif, the highest points in the Massif Central, offer ski resorts in winter, summer hikes, and authentic mountain specialties year-round.
