Located in the village of Tharoiseau, 20 kilometers from Vézelay and 4 kilometers from Avallon, the Château de Tharoiseau estate is one of the few castle rentals in Burgundy that combines ample accommodation, flexible reception spaces, and a preserved natural setting. The château spans 4.5 hectares, encompassing an enclosed wooded park, a vegetable garden, woods, and meadows, all set in a quiet and authentic rural environment typical of the Yonne region.

This 1,400-square-meter castle, spread over four floors, is exclusively reserved for each stay—whether for families, groups of friends, weddings, or seminars. As soon as you step through the gate, the outside world fades away: the 1.5-hectare, fully enclosed grounds form a secure, lush setting where ponds, lawns, terraces, and natural shade blend seamlessly into a timeless landscape.

Located right next to the château, the orangery rounds out the event space offerings with two distinctive areas: a bright, 50-square-meter glass-enclosed room and a 70-square-meter vaulted stone hall—two spaces that instantly transport your guests to the unique atmosphere of historic Burgundy.

The estate also features a winery on its grounds, offering tours, tastings, and on-site purchases: a rare opportunity for Burgundy wine enthusiasts looking to combine their stay with an exploration of the region.

Principal living and reception rooms

The ground floor of the Château de Tharoiseau features a series of elegant salons and spacious living areas, all accessible from the central entrance hall. This level is designed for social gatherings: each room has its own distinct character and natural purpose, ranging from the most festive to the most intimate.

The Orangery

For weddings in Burgundy and large events, the adjoining orangery offers two complementary spaces:

The glass-enclosed room (50 m²): bright, accommodating up to 40 people, with a kitchenette and restrooms. Perfect for a reception or a festive meal with a small group.
The vaulted stone guardroom (70 m²): steeped in history and authenticity, accommodating up to 50 people, ideal for a dance party or a gala dinner.

For larger-scale weddings and receptions, tents can be set up on the property to accommodate up to 150 people. Water and electricity are available on-site for caterers.

The large meeting room (70 m²)

With its large table and chairs, this is the castle’s central space for seminars, large seated dinners, or standing receptions for up to 70 people. Its size also makes it an ideal setting for indoor secular ceremonies.

The Billiards Room

With its French billiards table and adjoining bathroom with toilet, the billiards room is the perfect setting for lively evenings and friendly competitions.

The Blue Living Room

With its sofas and armchairs and soft lighting, the Blue Living Room is the castle’s natural relaxation area—the place where guests gather between activities for a quiet chat or a drink together.

The Music Room

Equipped with a half-grand piano in perfect condition and a game table, the music room is a rare and lively space. Ideal for impromptu musical evenings, board games, or group cultural activities.

The Horse Room

A small, intimate lounge with two sofas, the Horse Room is a cozy retreat for small-group conversations or quieter moments during your stay.

The Grand Library

A space for reading, meetings, or a private office, the library offers a studious and hushed atmosphere, ideal for seminars or creative retreats.

Our bedrooms

Tharoiseau Castle can accommodate up to 30 guests in its 15 rooms, spread over two floors. Each room is available with either a double bed or twin beds, depending on the group’s needs. Unoccupied rooms remain locked to ensure privacy and security during your stay.

Accessible Room on the Garden Level

Designed for guests with limited mobility (meets HA standards), this room features a 180 cm (king-size) double bed that can be converted into two 90 cm single beds, as well as a bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet that meet accessibility standards. Accessible via elevator.
