The estate

With its warm and welcoming atmosphere, the château can comfortably accommodate 28 people in 13 rooms, whether for a weekend or a vacation.

The Château des Louteaux, available for rent in its entirety, showcases the architectural beauty of the Chevagnes canton. As you enter the semicircular courtyard, you’ll feel as though the château is enveloping you within its warm walls.

Inside, the layout of the interconnected rooms, the fireplaces, and the decor will make you feel right at home. You can enjoy this warm, family-friendly home while also having the opportunity to relax in the castle’s more secluded spaces. A perfect blend of privacy and conviviality!

The Estate in Pictures

Explore the estate

The main building of this country house has two stories with seven windows.

The entire complex opens onto the semicircular Cour d’Honneur, flanked by two octagonal pavilions, each topped with an imperial-style dome. The building follows the Solognote tradition, featuring a pattern of multicolored bricks arranged in black and red diamond shapes that give rhythm to the facades.

With its 25-hectare grounds, the château offers plenty of activities for both children and adults. But perhaps you’d prefer to go on a hunting trip in the surrounding area? Or host a family gathering, such as a reception or wedding dinner for about 60 people? It’s possible!

Heritage

The History of the Castle

XVIIème Century

As parents of a large family, the owners have owned the château for over 25 years. Their children are now adults, and—like many of our owners—they wish to keep the château alive by entrusting it to you for your gatherings with family or friends.
North of Chézy, Les Louteaux is a country manor with a main courtyard dating from the mid-17th century. It is said to have been built at the behest of François le Tailleur, lord of the neighboring lands. François Le Tailleur, squire and lord of Thonin and Champagnat, took the title of Lord of Les Louteaux and decided, in 1663, to build a bourgeois-style residence there. Over the centuries, the château changed hands frequently. It belonged to Sébastien Alarose de la Bresne, former Treasurer of France and first public prosecutor of the municipality; he was guillotined on the very day of Robespierre’s fall, on the 9th of Thermidor, Year II, following the Chevagnes affair, which had prompted the mayors of the canton to refuse a grain requisition. It is also worth noting that Jean Nicolas Henry de Chacaton, a talented painter, was born here on July 30, 1813.
Moulins has many buildings constructed of brick. This material, predominant in Moulins’s 17th- and 18th-century architecture with its diamond-patterned or herringbone decorations, was also used in other eras. The brick is left exposed, creating a striking contrast with the stone. It becomes a decorative element, its color ranging from pink to black depending on the type of clay and the firing time. Moulins was once a royal city, and its architecture is based on balance and harmony. It retains the imprint of the aristocracy and the early Bourbons. During the Belle Époque, Moulins—with its refined cafés and racetrack—saw Gabrielle Chanel become the famous Coco Chanel.

Reception

Lounges and Reception Rooms

The complex consists of a main building, an east wing, and a west wing (octagonal pavilions). The formal rooms are located on the ground floor: three living rooms, including the round salon with a panoramic view of the park and a piano; two dining rooms; and a library with a fireplace. The particularly spacious and inviting kitchen also features a fireplace.
For setting up the reception area, we recommend 4–5 tables seating 8 people each in the octagonal salon and 2–3 tables in the adjacent entrance hall. The two rooms are connected, have high ceilings, and are very bright.

C’est un très bel endroit pour une réunion de famille. Nous étions 25 et les espaces étaient suffisamment grands et accueillants. Que ce soit l’intérieur ou l’extérieur, tout était parfait.

We had a fantastic week at the Chateau. There were 24 of us, aged between 6 and 72. Everyone loved it: the lake with a rowing boat, fishing for catfish, walking with alpacas, playing billiards and table tennis, hours spent in the sunshine by or in the pool, large family meals eaten outside every day. It was brilliant. The chateau and the grounds are beautiful. We all loved every minute!
