In the heart of the Loire Valley, Château du Bellay stands within a natural setting of great elegance, characteristic of the landscapes of the region. Located in the commune of Allonnes and listed as a Historic Monument, the château immediately captivates with its tuffeau stone architecture, the luminous limestone emblematic of Loire Valley châteaux. Beautifully restored by the owning family, the estate harmoniously blends a Renaissance pavilion with a 19th-century neoclassical building, recognizable by its graceful Italianate peristyle.

 

The tree-lined avenue, bordered with lime trees and horse chestnuts, leads to the château’s soft cream façade. All around, the 3-hectare park unfolds its lawns, canal and centuries-old trees, offering privileged viewpoints over the Château de Saumur, visible from the terraces and the west-facing steps.

 

To the right of the avenue, the arcades of the former orangery shelter a heated swimming pool, a true oasis of calm, perfect for relaxing in any season. The estate also benefits from direct access to a private forest, ideal for walks, morning runs or outdoor play.

 

At the end of the day, the west-facing perron becomes one of the château’s most enchanting spots, a privileged place to admire the sunset with the Château de Saumur and the estate’s canal as a breathtaking backdrop.

From the moment you step inside, Château du Bellay reveals a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The through entrance hall, filled with the soft light characteristic of tuffeau stone, offers an elegant view of the various reception rooms on the ground floor.

 

The round salon, painted in a delicate pastel blue, evokes the refined spirit of eighteenth century salons. It is a soothing space designed for reading, conversation or a quiet pause during the day.
Next to it, the square salon offers a more intimate atmosphere. Its working fireplace makes it a particularly cozy place for winter evenings, family weekends or gatherings with friends.

 

A large dining room with a table that seats up to fourteen guests completes the reception area and provides a warm setting for shared meals and convivial moments.

 

The living spaces of the château combine historical charm with modern comfort, creating enjoyable rooms for all seasons.

Our bedrooms

The castle offers 8 rooms decorated with taste and refinement. The windows of the bedrooms have been particularly well designed to deliver beautiful daylight in all the rooms. The “chambre des oiseaux”, with its small room for children is the ideal place for a couple with young children . The château can accommodate up to 14 people if there are 2 children in addition to a party of 12. The turquoise room is the most comfortable room with its spacious private bathroom.

Our Rates

The property is for rent in its entirety by a single group. You have the use of the whole castle (12-14 people), of the park and the swimming pool.

The rental tarif includes heating, water, electricity, garden maintenance and linen cleaning the chateau your stay. Sheets and towels are provided and bed are made upon arrival. 


It does not include the “taxe de séjour”.

History ofChâteau du Bellay

Birthplace of the du Bellay family, the château carries the name of a lineage that produced many notable figures, including Joachim du Bellay, a major sixteenth century French poet and member of the Pléiade. The buildings of the estate, witnesses to this prestigious history, are now listed as Historic Monuments.

 

The property has belonged to the same family for more than 150 years and consists of two main buildings. The first, from the Renaissance period, is a former hunting lodge whose charm still shapes the identity of the place. The second, built in the early nineteenth century, is the work of architect François Léonard Seheult, known for his elegant and balanced neoclassical designs.

 

Family heritage, refined architecture and a preserved natural setting make Château du Bellay a place where history and the art of living in the Loire Valley come together with elegance.

Activities around Château du Bellay

The Loire Valley enjoys a worldwide cultural, gastronomic and historical reputation. Many royal castles are located in this region, where kings and queens invited the most famous artists of their times : Amboise (King François the 1st), Clos Lucé (Leonard de Vinci), Angers (cradle of the Plantagenet dynasty), Blois (where Duke of Guise was murdered on King Henri III’s request), Chambord (King François the 1st), Chenonceau (Queen Louise de Lorraine, Catherine de Médicis…), Loches (King Louis XI), Saumur (king Henri IV, Joachim du Bellay)…in fact, more than 2500 castles, big and small are located in this area. It accounts for the Loire Valley being ranked on the Unesco “World Mankind Patrimony” list.

The town of Saumur is especially well known for its Ecole Royale de Cavalerie, which has become the French military horse riding school, known as “le Cadre Noir”. Since 1972, Saumur also hosts the National School of Horse Riding.

Each year, more than 10, 000 people will attend the “carrouseldu cadre noir”.

Saumur is also located on the Eurovelo 6, a 3 653 kilometre long bicycle route traversing Europe from the Black Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. The region is perfect for joggers and cyclists (even outside of the Eurovelo), who can safely explore this beautiful area by foot or bike.
