History ofChâteau de Carqueiranne

A true gem of Provençal heritage, Château de Carqueiranne traces its roots back to the 13th century. Its story begins with Guillaume de Carcairana, a nobleman from Lombardy, who acquired the estate in 1217 and received his ecclesiastical investiture from Pope Innocent IV in 1252. Located near Olbia, the ancient cradle of Phocaean winemaking, the château stands within a 2,600-year-old viticultural tradition that shaped the very identity of Provence.

Over the centuries, the château became home to the Thomas de Fos and Ripert families, two great Provençal lineages, and in 1737, it hosted the Bishop of Toulon, Louis de La Tour du Pin de Montauban, who passed away there. In 1873, the property, then spanning 250 hectares, was acquired by the Richet family. The distinguished scientist Charles Richet, awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1913, transformed the estate into a hub of research and innovation, conducting groundbreaking experiments in aviation and psychic phenomena.

After a period of decline, Château de Carqueiranne was brought back to life in the 21st century by the Lamour family, who began an ambitious restoration project in 2023. Today, the château shines once again, standing as a living symbol of Provence, where history, culture, and art de vivre come together in perfect harmony.
